Use of Stumpgrinder Course
1-day Lantra Stumpgrinder – ITA Course
Stumpgrinders are a specialised piece of equipment that an increasing number of tree surgery contractors use to remove tree stumps. They generally consist of a heavy steel flywheel with tungsten-faced teeth mounted on it, which is powered by a suitably sized engine. Smaller models are usually petrol, larger models are almost always diesel. The spinning flywheel is moved in an arc from side to side, and beats the tree stump into chips. Any machine which can reduce a tree stump into tiny pieces is potentially dangerous, both to the operator and bystanders, and stumpgrinder training is therefore essential.
There are two very specific risks associated with using stumpgrinders – contact with underground services, and thrown objects (stones) which can potentially travel considerable distances. The correct use of Stumpgrinders course will teach the operator how to minimise these risks.
Stumpgrinder course assessment
The Lantra – Use of Stumpgrinder Course is a 1-day course with integrated assessment by the instructor. This Lantra Certificate of Competence is recognised by the HSE but, if candidates wish to gain an NPTC Certificate of Competence, the Lantra training they have received should equip them to pass the NPTC assessment. We can also run an NPTC Integrated Assessment (IA) course. This runs as 1-day course and includes the NPTC Assess.
Formal Stumpgrinder training is a legal requirement under PUWER – the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.
1 day NPTC IA Stumpgrinder
