NPTC Unit 301 (CS32) Felling of Medium Trees
NPTC Unit 301 – 3-day Lantra Course, followed by an independent NPTC Unit 301 Assessment
The Felling of Medium Trees course teaches candidates how to fell trees that are up to, but not greater than, twice bar length. In practice, this means felling trees that are up to 30″ (760mm) diameter with the size of saw that they undertook their basic chainsaw training with. The cuts are more challenging because they still have to meet accurately, but the bar can be completely concealed in the tree. The Medium Tree training course also teaches candidates basic winching techniques, because manual take-down is not possible on a hung up tree of approx 30″ in diameter.
Following training, the candidate is then assessed by an independently appointed NPTC Assessor, and successful candidates will receive an NPTC Certificate of Competence and NPTC Skills card
